Celebrating Our Freedom in Christ!

When the 4th of July comes to mind, we think about celebrating our freedom as a nation. Today I would like to talk about our freedom in Christ! Many things that we as Christians can be held captive of are our perceptions, our unwillingness to forgive, sadness, anger, and anxiety. But we have the ability to become free of all of these things as children of God! God wants us to live His purpose joyfully!

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. -Gal. 5:1

Self Perception/Peer Pressure
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
-Romans 12:2

Our perceptions of ourselves and the world can become dark and ugly.  However, the scripture states that we are fearfully & wonderfully made!
Whether it is what someone has told you about yourself or something else, always refer back to what God says. Does He think you are ugly? No. Unworthy? No. Does He want you gossiping or stealing? No!

Anxiety
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 4:6-7

We can become slaves to anxiety. Worrying about things that we have no control over. I myself have a problem with this but I am learning to let go and let God.

Impatience
But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. -Isaiah 40:31

Sometimes I want a certain outcome and I want it now! But God works in His time and He knows best. This is something I have learned time and time again!

Forgiveness
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. -Ephesians 4:31-32

When we don't forgive, we are held captive in our own anger. We miss blessings and view life from a limited mindset. God wants us to be set free!

  2. Not only our perceptions of ourselves, but of this world. We forget that it is not our home, that the devil is still prowling, and we are still fighting the battle (though the war is won, if we only choose obedience to the gospel!). Great scriptural reminders!
