Last week I blogged about practical ways to Have your husband's best interest at heart in your marriage! Today I am continuing the 10 attributes of a proverbs 31 wife series with Proverbs 31:20: She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. God calls us to serve others and one great way to do this is to help those you are poor or in need.
Matthew 19:21 says: Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”
One great way is to sell items you don't use anymore. You can find a local thrift shop and sell clothes, furniture, ect. This will be a blessing to others who will be able to buy these items at deeply discounted prices. You can then take the money you made and donate it to a charity of your choice.
You can also donate your items to a goodwill donation drop off location or drop them in the clothing drop boxes that sit in many store parking lots in your local area. Some shelters need toiletries for women because they are not provided to them.
Volunteer to teach a class, help at a soup kitchen, or at an after school program. There are so many opportunities to help volunteer!
Acknowledge them, look them in the eye, speak to them, and encourage them. Do not judge them. This may seem odd, but many people do not make eye contact with people who may be homeless or poor. We never know, this could be us one day. They are children of God too.
How are you extending your hands to the poor today?
Stay tuned for part five of 10 attributes of a proverbs 31 wife series!
