With the holiday season upon us, there will be gathering of family and friends, lots of fun, laughter and unfortunately stress and arguments too. We get caught up sometimes in the wrong mindset don't we? Someone says something we don't like, brings up painful memories that can bring out the worst in us because they are our family. This holiday season, let's aim to live like Christ and show love not matter what!
If you are hosting a holiday gathering at your house, don't expect everything to be perfect. Take the pressure off of yourself. The point of family gatherings is to have a great time and show love to one another. If you are stressing about everything being 'just right' it will reflect negatively in your attitude. Focus on love.
2. Know your pressure points
Know the things that bother you and prepare for them. Will your mom or mother in law have something to say about your cooking or decorations? Make peace with it before they arrive. Have your response (Christ like response) whether vocal or not prepared. Be determined to have a spirit of peace.
3. Ask for support from family and friends
If there are issues that you know you haven't healed from or you will have trouble dealing with in a Christ like matter, let you close family or friends know. Inform them so that when the issue arises, they can support you and get you in line if necessary.
Pray and ask God for peace, love, and control during the holidays. That you will have control of your feelings and reactions no matter what happens that day. Pray while an issue starts to arise if need be.
5. Practice Gratitude
Instead of complaining or stressing about things, give thanks. Things with the food aren't going your way? Thank God that you have food. Family member acting crazy? Thank God for family and people who love you. Some people wish for what we don't think to be grateful for.
How do you stay sane during the holidays? Let us know in the comments!
