Quick (and FREE) Ways to Reduce Stress to Improve Health...and HAPPINESS!

Stress seems to be a fact of life these days.  We live in a fast-paced society with all kinds of crazy things happening daily...in our families and in the world.  Right?

The problem is that stress wreaks havoc on your health and happiness.  In fact, stress can even make it almost impossible to lose weight.  Not to mention that it weakens your immune system which leads to chronic illness.  Yuk!

Yes, a monthly massage is great, but in order to keep a handle on stress, you must address it daily.  So, just how can you reduce stress DAILY, at no cost?  Here are some ideas:

1.  Breathe.  Deep breathing can be done anywhere and is excellent for calming you down and bringing peace to your soul.  It gets the oxygen flowing throughout your body and grounds you in the moment which helps to relieve worry and anxiety.

2.  Move.  Move your body.  Get those feel-good endorphins flowing throughout your whole being.  It will elevate you to a place of joy.

3.  Listen.  Listen to music.  We often forget about the power of music!  Next time you're feeling stressed, turn on your favorite song and sing out loud!  You might even dance in the kitchen to your favorite tunes and give your family a good laugh!

4.  And, speaking of laughing, it happens to be a GREAT stress reducer.  So, find a good comedian and let him tickle your funny bone.  Do something crazy (like dancing in the kitchen) that makes your whole family laugh.  You get the idea!

5.  Sleep.  To be able to handle everything that is thrown at you in a day, you must be well rested.  Being tired makes everything worse.  So, go to bed by 10 pm and sleep well.  Then when you get stuck in a traffic jam trying to get to work, your well-rested self will take it like a champ!  Or, when your pre-schooler asks you yet another question, you'll be fully prepared to handle it.

See, stress reduction can be easy and free.  It's just a matter of being conscious about it and taking action each day.  Breathe, move, listen, laugh, and sleep.  Sounds good to me!
